I have never really understood that because the economies of both our countries are made up of almost the same % by the service and financial sectors

the miners' families also dine, buy groceries, go shopping, bank with westpac, take out mortgages, need plumbers, visit noosa, go to school, take a panadol, see the doctor, vote the MP, etc etc etc.

I think Aus has a 2 level economy- the mining one and the one that is struggling.
Now I hear there is a call to tax alcohol by strength, not price.

they should double the tax on cigarets and impose high taxes on trans fats and low-density lipids.

I believe the UK is the same. A wealthy South with its financial sector, and a buggered North with the remnants of the industrial revolution.

Many countries have 2-speed economies - USA, Germany, UK, Australia etc. It is not unique to us.
