All the royal edicts called it "ball play" or "playing at ball". The term "football" first appeared in a 1486 document, but it didn't mean a game in which a foot came into contact with a ball. Instead, it meant a game played "on foot" rather than on horse, as was royally-approved jousting. The name also showed that football belonged to the commoners; only the nobility could afford to use horses for games!

I'm talking about real football, 19th Century when the football and rugby factions split. The 2 schools that wanted to keep handling, kicking people, gouging and punching walked out of the meeting, so that they became rugby and the majority became 'Association Football'.

Very funny.
I remember when Roy Keane was at Forest and he was a relatively 'nice young man' as Cloughie would have said. I wonder what happened there Mr Ferguson?

Ok all I can come up for a meeting place for Melbourne at this Point, Is Young and Jacksons, opposite Flinders St Station. I know for a fact that it gets packed out with UK fans, when the game is played at Olympic Park. I dont know exactly what happens when the Game is played at Telstra Dome.
There is also A UK venue in Swan St Richmond, again when the games are at Olympic Park, However no one I talked to could remember the name of it.
I'm going on Sunday, and will have a wander around amongst some fans, and ask them in person what is happening.
I'm probably meeting about 5 Palace fans of the CPFC BBS Sunday Still havn't set the Venue as of yet.
Anyway Go Victory, 5 outta 5 cannot be bad.

Just back from the Victory v Qld Roar game here in Melbourne. Fantastic atmosphere. With the standard a lot better than last game I saw where Melbourne broke the football attendance record of 40,000 again Sydney.
This time only, lol "only" 26,000 die hard supporters turned up, on a warm day here in melbourne, 25 degrees on a sunday arvo, the day after the grand final, with the rugby league final, between Melbourne and the Broncos being played live on tv later today. Not a bad effort from Melbournes real football following public.
I watched the game, with some Palace company, in amongst a lot of UK orientated fans, I hav'nt as yet worked out where they meet pre match yet, there again with a bar in the ground it's easy to socialise. What a bar as well, two floors up behind the goal, with about 30 metres or more of window over looking the pitch, bit like the old day terraces with a beer in hand.
Anyway... I throughly recommend it.... I think I'm witnessing the birth of something great here.
Come along guys, and follow your local city here in Aussie.

Talking of that Pig n Whistle pub in Brisbane - is that any good for watching England games cos I'm going to be in Brisbane next Saturday and wouldn't mind watching the England v Macedonia game (think its 2am). Does anybody know the best place to watch in Brisbane city centre?

21st of October, Sydney v Melbourne, apparently there are over 300 Melbourne supporters going up to Sydney.
I'm considering going, as there are a susbtantial amount of Palace supporters going to meet up up there. At the Cricketers arms, in Surrey hills.
Give us a hoy if you are interested in going up from Melbourne.
