Re: Aussie Christmas traditions
Bunnings might sell them here, but they wouldn't last long in the garden. I'm right on the coast. Never get any frost, which they like, and I'm not sure how they handle sea spray.... now those Norfolk Pines...... not sure I'd fancy putting the fairy on the top.

I've seen a few Spruce trees in Canberra that have been planted out and are thriving. But then we get very cold winter conditions complete with heavy frost. A good example of a planted out and thriving spruce can be found on the green strip along Northbourne Avenue - near to where the Barton Highway begins.

Re: Aussie Christmas traditions
Alternatvely, there is always the enchanted Aussie BBQ
Just got back from our camping trip to Esperance. The free gas bbq's provided (same as everywhere) are okay for cooking sausages and bacon but hopeless for steak and chops. Fortunately, the Kiwi guy camping next to us had a Weber which he fired up every day, and he let me use it too. Heaven
Next time I'll take my Cobb portable bbq

Glad you had a good time. We did a few day trips over the Christmas hols and it's reinforced the need to get properly kitted out for camping - what a fine country this is for that! Might even get a caravan, and it can then double up as a guest room courtesy of our smallish house.
I struggle to cook even sausages on those flat plate gas ones, preferring to cook "value" burgers and onions on them (need the fatty and tasty juices to fry with - unlike the virtually 100% lean meat burgers).
Shit, I'm hungry now....

Re: Aussie Christmas traditions
well our new Christmas traditions are a 7am swim either in the sea or a river and camping in a national park, preferably with a large wood fire to keep the flies away and cook on. Some really good times to be had
