Frankly in cases like an Australian citizen being deported wrongfully by our own government and senior officials ignoring and covering it up for years, damn straight she should be awarded damages.

So half of the $5.4m payout went to a wrongly deported Australian.

I would have thought it more worrying that the article reports an outbreak of the infectious diseases typhoid and tuberculosis at the overflowing detention centre on Christmas Island.

l'm sure they will all be given first class medical care at the taxpayers expense, They most likely will be flown to mainland hospitals they will probably kick the Aussie patients out of their hospital rooms to makeway for the boat people. Al the hospital staff will probably have cover themselves in Burkas so not to offend them.

They do in the UK, in fact asylum seekers get better and quicker treatment than most Britons in private hospitals.

I'm all for controlled migration and I understand Aus doesn't want to overload with additional expense, no skills, no infastructure to support it, but it's also important it's not inward looking. Migrants have made this the mogrel country and it's better class because of it
