Re: Ashes 2010 thread. Who's gonna win?
Well, Aggers has just announced the England team for Perth, yet I can't see it anywhere officially.
Cook Strauss Trott Pietersen Collingwood Bell Prior Bresnan Swann Anderson Finn If that is the case then I think we have missed a trick here! Bresnan is a batting allrounder, rather than a bowling allrounder at the moment. Given we only have two other quicks in our team, this is a real risk at Perth. I would have picked Bresnan last out of the three, probably Tremlett first pick. Bresnan would be a good pick if anything happened to Collingwood, but a replacement for Broad he is not! |

Fair points, Tremlett would seem to be first choice ... odd that the team is announced before the tour game is finished ...
The thing I'm enjoying about the Australian reaction to Adelaide is that they think Australia played badly. Well they did at times, but the fact was that England won not because Australia played badly but because England played superbly. We will probably have to expect England not to reach those heights again in this series, but if they do it doesn't matter what team Australia pick. |

Maybe the thinking is that Anderson and Finn are the best option for the new ball, and Bresnan has lots of overs in him. Problem with a four man attack. Can't see Tremlett bowling lots of overs, he would have to play as a strike bowler.

In any case I reckon England has enough firepower to knock that mob over and if Johnson starts badly he could be basket case by the end. Can't wait ... :D |

I agree. It is too early to put our hands on the urn but beating Australia by an innings down here is a great turnaround compared to other tours. I am looking forward to the next test.

Yeah, hence all the 'Beer at the bottom of the barrel' type headlines now - but in point of fact the bookies' odds for Perth reflect how this Test could go either way. No Broad to support a hardly fresh Jimmy won't be an ideal start for example...

Re: Ashes 2010 thread. Who's gonna win?
I wonder what the Perth pitch is going to do.
It has always been feared by batsmen in the past due to the pace and bounce that it generates, but in recent years it seems to have gone the way of most of the world's pitches, i.e. flat and lifeless. They have had an extremely dry year there and a baking hot spring/summer so far in contrast to the rest of AUS. By the looks of things, the MCG pitch is going to favour batsmen as well when we get to the Boxing Day test. England relying on Collingwood, Panesar and Strauss , to take wickets and only a combined total of 4 wickets falling between the two teams in the first innings. |

Re: Ashes 2010 thread. Who's gonna win?
All reports so far are saying it will be a traditional, rock hard, lightning quick and bouncy WACA pitch. Perth is having one of its driest years on record and the pitch will be like concrete.
Looks like we'll get a decent battle between bat and ball this time rather than complete batting dominance. Both sides have pace attacks that can exploit these conditions so this should be a great test match. |
Re: Ashes 2010 thread. Who's gonna win?
Well the Australian Selectors have just confirmed what I always knew about the Aussies and that is that they are an unrefined lot of people
Fancy turning down Bollinger in favour of Beer????!!!!!! |
