Default Anyone else scared of flying?

Hi!

Just wondered if anyone else shares my fear of flying? It started around 2 years ago after a bad flight in Thailand and was made much worse after we flew through major storms from Bali to Singapore on the way over to the UK and I had my first experience of travel sickness (along with many other people) I am already starting to feel anxious about our flights back home to Australia in 2 months, hopefully the excitement will take over??
Anyone have any tips on how to get past this?

I hate it too... had a couple of minor experiences, nothing untoward and yet the irrational fears still take me over.

Sorry, don't have any proper practical advice I usually do my best not to think about it, even when we are in the lounge waiting to board (I put on my ipod and drown my brain with music or audio books) and then after I get past take off (concentrating on my breathing out.. I usually forget to breath and think that I am going to faint!), I try to fall asleep.. and because i am usually emotionally worn out with it all, I usually sleep for a bit. That helps as I wake up relaxed and find that its not too bad..

If that fails, then I usually order some booze and plug into the telly/movies showing.

Em x

Explain to your Doctor. He will prescribe some Valium or Diazepam, and this will calm you down a bit.

Hi

Go to a few yoga classes and practice the breathing methods which can calm you down and clear your mind. Also take Rescue Remedy although Boots do one called Calm Down and I found this one more effective (I had some panic attacks in the night when we first got here).

I know the bumps are really scary at times and everytime I've flown over Indonesia it has been the worst I've ever known but on the whole nothing is likely to happen to you as long as you are strapped in.

Try and come back on the A380 as I have to say they have been smooth flights or maybe we've just been lucky with the weather at the time but having done it so many times it just can't be a fluke!

Also maybe go on one of those fear of flying courses - my friend went on one and said it was great as they explain everything.

Good luck!

Thanks,I actually do Yoga and it has been helping me a lot with anxiety.
I will get my hands on some Rescue Remedy in the UK before we fly home, I've used it before and it does help, I've also got travel sickness arm bands which really help me too as the anxiety seems to bring on the travel sickness or vice versa???

We are flying on the A380 to Singapore and then another big plane from there to Australia, I agree it makes a difference and all the in flight entertainment helps too.

They don't work for my anymore - I'm already on 50 valium a day, and 10 diazepam to help me sleep.

I'd need diamorphine

If you're of a mind, make an appointment to see a TFT practitioner. You can google it.
