seems to be lower than the UK. in 2007 ABS reported 8.7% compared to UK's 10.2% - although I would need more time or ABC to get proper stats. the aboriginal population really pushes that % up.

The OECD figures I posted last night showed the UK and Australia down towards the bottom of the list....Australia worse than the UK.

There were 20odd countries with higher rates per '000.

I suppose every suicide is appalling.

Australia has the highest against UK but not regionals. Wales is far higher

actually Ireland has higher and I am sure Wales is the same - although we dont deserve our own categorisation apparently.

males females
IRELAND 7 17.4 3.8
UNITED KINGDOM 7 10.1 2.8

and in wales
21 per 100,000 population among males and six per 100,000 population among females
