Hiya,

I'm a long time member of British Expats, although now back in the UK. I'm currently writing a novel, part of which is set in Darwin. I tend to research as I go along and I'm just about to write a scene where the main character is beaten up by a stranger who tried to pick him up in a bar.

I've done a bit of googling and I can't see much evidence of gay bars in Darwin. The Mississippi Queen looks like it shut down 7 years ago and the Railcar Bar web site is now just an empty domain.

Is there much of a gay scene in Darwin? Does the gay community have problems from people who are less than tolerant?

Are there any no-go areas in Darwin City centre?

If anyone has any information they can pass on, I'd be grateful and send some virtual cookies your way.

Throb Nightclub is the only one in Darwin I've heard of x

I've never heard of any discrimination against the gay community here, quite the opposite in fact - but then hubby and I don't go into the city much so probably out of the loop x
