Its true, I dont buy the 'its only 24 hours away' because its not. Its as long as it takes to find an affordable flight and then add the days of travel. That short stopover in Singapore may as well be days if you are trying to get home in an emergency.

And then if you have a few grand spare for tickets then great - because a last minute flight might cost you double of what you would normally pay.

If there is anything I am not going to kid myself with, and that is the fact that once we are in Perth, we will not be 24 hours away and certainly not a small amount financially.

Some of these threads were so sad and it sort of gives an insight to how our loved ones are feeling when we tell them that we are emigrating. The first one in particular makes you think and it cannot be easy for this person at all.

It helps me have a bit more compassion anyway.

OMG! These stories are tugging at the old heart strings....

I am quite prepared to expect that my children will want to move away from me (and shall be keeping dual nationality for that very purpose of giving them every opportunity) but the actual thought of them being on the other side of the world is a complete killer...

I am now thinking "my poor mum"... (she was in tears when I told her).. but she is very supportive too!:wub:

Yeh, and there was me hoping to quote the entire works of Shakespeare later and hope that nobody would notice.

I would like to thank the English language for this post. English is an Anglo-Frisian language. Germanic-speaking peoples from northwest Germany (Saxons and Angles) and Jutland (Jutes) invaded what is now known as Eastern England around the fifth century AD. It is a matter of debate whether the Old English language spread by displacement of the original population, or the native Celts gradually adopted the language and culture of a new ruling class, or a combination of both of these processes.

I would like to thank Wikipedia for that cut and paste.

I would like to thank Internet Explorer for giving me the tool to post this.

I would like to thank my body for hauling my arse out the bed this morning, against all odds.

I would like to thank Ian AND Helena for giving me the opportunity to post this in reply.

And anyone else that knows me Noel.

A Matter of Balance

Once upon a time in the kingdom of Heaven, God went missing for six days. Eventually, Michael the archangel found him on the seventh day resting.

He enquired of God, “Where have you been?”

God pointed downwards through the clouds. "Look Michael, look what
I've made," said God.

Archangel Michael looked puzzled and said, “What is it?”

It's a planet," replied God, "and I've put life on it. I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a great place of balance."

"Balance?" inquired Michael, still confused.

God explained, pointing down to different parts of the earth, "For example, Nth America will be a place of great opportunity and wealth while Sth America is going to be poor; the Middle East over there will be a hot spot and Russia will be a cold spot."

"Over there I've placed a continent of white people and here I've
placed a continent of black people." God continued pointing to different countries.
"This one will be extremely hot and arid and this one will be very cold and covered in ice."

The archangel, impressed by Gods work, then pointed to another area land and asked,” What’s that?"

"Ah", said God. "That's Launceston the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful people, impressive pubs; it is the home of the world’s finest drinkers, musicians, teachers, thinkers, and sportsman. The people from Launceston are going to be modest, intelligent and humorous and they're going to be found travelling the world.

“They'll be extremely sociable, hard working and high achieving, and they will be known throughout the world as speakers of truth."

Michael gasped in wonder and admiration but then proclaimed, "What about balance God, you said there will be BALANCE!"

God replied very wisely, “Wait till you see the wankers I'm putting in Hobart ”
