Re: Amazon incoming ...
You've obviously got no idea what your talking about in relation to Post.....
He tried to form another company in order to sell it to Deutsche Post asset stripping as he went. ,Tthe union got the inside information and threatened to expose him to the media. He left with his tail between his legs.
Star Trak the Vehicle he was using to split the company is now being reabsorbed into Post.
The Catylyst for this came when Posties...The ones on bikes and foot Parcel delivery figures weren't included in the work they actually did.

Now on the flipside, where is Jim Metcher today. The bully boy, domestic violent, union boss. The man who left families of workers at Oz Post in fear for the lives due to his unions bullying.
However plenty of other players in the game making a killing from online.

Re: Amazon incoming ...
Most of the problem at the moment is that nobody is really buying anything, since wages growth has flatlined for a decade. And much of that is due to silly housing prices soaking up free cash for no benefit.
Retail shops are going to the wall (as most people have noticed) and Auspost are still terrible at delivery, and aus shops are terrible at pricing, which means online still isn't a big thing in Australia. Frankly the stuff I order online comes from the US or China, and I grit my teeth when it hits Oz shores and it slows to a crawl and disappears into the black hole of auspost.

You do realise wage growth, along with inflation, is low in most developed economies. Its not just Australia.
Economists are largely baffled why the Phillips Curve is not ringing true here. Low unemployment = wage growth and higher inflation. Some allude to globally low interest rates as the issue while others believe its due to increasing use of cheaper labour in non developed economies.

Ho ho. Ahmed Fahour leaving with his tail between his legs. Ho ho. And where is Oz Post today compared to where it was. And where is Ahmed Fahour today. Tail up in the air taking forging new success at Latitude.
Now on the flipside, where is Jim Metcher today. The bully boy, domestic violent, union boss. The man who left families of workers at Oz Post in fear for the lives due to his unions bullying.
And growing.

They would have been further ahead, had he not gone of course with his Star Trak self appreciating tangent ripping of the tax payer along the way.. He spent asset millions stripping Aus Post facilities of upgrades to the his own personal enterprise in Star Trak that he planned to sell to Deutsche Post. Lets just say the Victorian branch found out about this and gained proof..... Which is why he left and Metcher his NSW buddy is in the siutation he is in today.
The massive Parcel facilities at Ardeer in Melbourne and Gladsville up in Sydney were already in place years before with massive expansion planson the table, well before he came along. Those expansion plan funds were directed towards Star Trak.
As for Jim Metcher, he was one of Ahmeds mates.... believe it or not, up each others arseholes.... exactly why Aus post workers fell behind on parity with other workers during Ahmeds "Reign". Massive conflict there between the NSW branch and the Victorian branch, which may well now see the power base switch back to Victoria.
If it does in this months election Aus Post workers will likely see a 20 pct pay rise..... Thats what Victoria will go for. To Bring us back to where we were before Ahmed and Jim got in bed together.
If you dont believe me read this...
NSW union corruption.

Just because you have lived your life around unions doesn't mean you can't shift with the times. Same with unions.
The us against the mentality is always going to end in tears for unions. A bit like the Labor party at the last election. Maybe time for a strategy change.
You know what they say, keep your friends close and your enemies even closer.

Can you provide some evidence of this? Even if you can, so what, he is a CEO who makes companies money. That's why he was employed to turn Oz Post around. And that he did
So Ahmed Fahour made deals with the devil. Well I never. He must have learned a trick or 2 from the Scandinavian union movement.

There's evidence for sure, but a deal has been done, he's gone and that was the result of the Victorian evidence. The Union also now has a Chairperson it can deal with, someone that's bound to be sympathetic to the local branches wants. In fact she's coming to the Victorian branch in North Melbourne on June 11th for a chat.
Luckily he did most of his dealing in Melbourne, that was his undoing.

Ahmed knew there was no further personal financial gain to be had by being the CEO of Oz Post given the left wing frenzy. So he moved on and is killing it.
Don't over cook it, and don't believe what you read from those publications the union post out to you
It's pretty simple. The guy is a businessman. He likes to make money.
That union Koolaid is some strong stuff. It's got you hook line and sinker. Best to bail out and not go down with the sinking ship.

You want to hope it works, because no one else is capable in this country.... Unless the Supermarkets and their systems (Woolworths and Coles) almagamate and their networks turn to Parcels.... They'd be the closest capable at this stage.
One things for sure, you wont be seeing Drones in any meaningful way for at least 10 years.

Ooo, you spotted the same opening as I did (and kept quiet because who knows, it might be worth something). Supermarkets are the obvious replacement for auspost, if and when they spot it. Particularly with their delivery service, and when they start doing autonomous deliveries ...
Funny you should say that, here's the story from 3 hours ago :

Dont underestimate how hard it is to get reliable staff. This is one reason why Aus Post is making all of it's current part time work force full time and about to increase penalty rates across the nation. (no more 15pct less pay for starting at 6.30AM instead of 6AM where the 15pct penalty applies, as that caused massive turn over of staff) For the most part Supermarket staffers are Contract and Part time.
One of Star Traks major failings was is realiance on low paid contract labour..... They ended up with the proverbial "Monkeys" Trouble is the whole of the lower end of the delivery market now has "Monkeys". It's only full time, reliable, value their job, well paid staffing that will bring back confidence in this area.....Ergo enter Christine Holgate and her value the staff policies. She seems to know the fact that you are as good as your staff and the way you treat them. Hence the rest of the delivery outlets will lose access to the most reliable people.
If you get a regular person on a round, all that psuedo door knocking will disappear. The era of the contracted casual has ended at core Australia Post, Service levels are now coming back to what they were before Ahmeds arrival.

Massive turnover is a killer for productivity. When you have money, when your business is killing it, you can pop in provisions like pay rises to retain staff.
Again this is where the union movement in Australia falls short. They should we working with businesses to increase profits by increasing productivity and in turn rewarding staff for performing.
Sadly the unions in this country are after the easy ride. Just like these gentlemen.

Err, they are already delivering, to the door, at a time you select, and into the evening too.
That's the point, they are already better than auspost in the delivery stakes, and you already go to the store if you don't have delivery, and it's also open in the evening.
The supermarkets are already well ahead of auspost. And that's without the drones.
Plus, it makes it possible for australian supermarkets to do a home shopping 'Argos' type service themselves. Imagine Coles selling clothes like Tesco does.
Oh, and they are already capable of moving perishable goods around the country at a reasonable speed - your leg of lamb doesn't go missing for three weeks.
