Re: All the Gear
By that point 4K projectors will be down to a reasonable price. and 4K tablets will also be more common.
As I say, not this year or next.

pfff, all this TV stuff is a load of balls. I can barely notice even the difference of HD to normal.

Really. I just gave FoxSports HD away as part of my reconfiguration of my TV and Internet habits. I certainly notice the difference watching it on SD. When I finish the reconfig the HD is coming back

Got to say, this demo of 'autopilot' on the existing Tesla S cars has got me salivating :
A software update to give some serious lane smarts really shows how fast things are moving. 2020 for self-drive doesn't seem far fetched.

That's pretty mental. Will revolutionize driving home from the pub
Looking forward to the media outrage the first time one of them has an accident.

You're probably right. I wonder if it will auto-sense the age of the passive driver and go slower for older people so they don't have heart attacks etc...
I wonder if they got a permit to do that test drive on public roads.

Hilarious nervous reactions from the guy. That's how I felt teaching my kids to drive... "Oh my gosh, it's changing lanes on its own..."

Uber as an example:
Uber to launch in Canberra; ACT government to cut taxi licence fees and regulate ride-sharing
Uber driver accreditation will cost $50 per person and licence fees will cost $100 a year or $400 for five years.

Re: All the Gear
I reckon our nanny state will allow it but only for an annual licence fee.
Uber as an example:
Uber to launch in Canberra; ACT government to cut taxi licence fees and regulate ride-sharing
....And then we'll need the huge raft of legislation and hopeless bureaucracy to support it all.

Authorities in London have virtually stopped Uber and it is totally banned in Germany
I think it's awesome. Previously, if I went out in Perth I used to get a hotel as the taxis are so shit and expensive, but with Uber it's a piece of piss to get home at reasonable cost and the experience is a pleasure compared to the Muslim bus (aka Swan Taxis)

Uber remains banned in Germany and has major problems in other European countries like France and Belgium
Australia, overall, has been pretty accepting of Uber

Re: All the Gear
A couple of weeks ago, TFL ruled that the Uber app was a taximeter - something that only black cabs can have. This effectively stopped Uber from operating. However, Uber took this to the High court and a few days ago had this overturned so they are back in business
