Default The air-con wars

Hiya peeps

I've not been on here for a bit...so hi again to all who may or may not know me!!

Right, back to why I've put a thread up:

Anyone else having a bloody (almost literally) battle at work over the air con? A girl I work with insists on having the aircon up at at least 26 degrees...I sweat like a P.I.G (conjures up an unpleasant image, I know) It's a constant battle...I tweak it down a degree or two and she cranks it up every chance she gets...and whinges she's cold all the time!! It doesn't help that she's as skinny as a bloody pipe cleaner tho and therefore has no 'meat' to keep her warm.

I'm half thinking most of it is just a 'I've been here longer than you, so I'm in charge of the aircon' sort of thing.

Anyone else doing battle??

Hi artep

You are still with us then!

I'm not exactly doing battle (only 2 other girls in the office and we all get on) but I think I either feel the cold more than them or am in the colder side of the room as I always need a cardi and they are sat there with bare shoulders.

It's the same at home too though and hubby and I are thoroughly uncompatible at bedtime - "too cold" for me is "too hot" for him so he has to cuddle me to keep me warm and then he overheats from my body temperature! Fabulous contraceptive!

Good luck with your battling!

B

Never mind at work I have that battle constantly in the car, in the house and at work.

I quite agree with the cold girl it's terrible to freeze when you have no extra clothes with you sitting in a draft that drys your eyes out with the constantly blowing air. Hot people should be banned including my other half.

The most energy efficient temp for air-con is 25 degrees (says Ergon energy and my hub whos an air-con / fridgie)...so tell the bird at work to close her beak and you can crank it down a degree or two!

I read about a report some time ago, bit similar situation :

20 women in a call centre office, battling over the temperature - so the company got so fed up with the temp going up and down and all the arguing they installed bogus temp dials on all the ladies desks - so in effect they thought they were all controlling the temperature around them.

Needles to say the project was a huge success until the ladies found out the temperature had been set at a steady figure, and they had been "had" for the last couple of months.

Psychology - can't beat it

Wouldn't work I can tell he's got the place too cold by my blue nose and my freezing skin and inability to function.

Well me an one of my other co-workers sorted it....hehehehehe

We basically took the dial off the front the control while she was on lunch and moved it round a bit so it registers warmer than it actually is. We've only done it by a degree or so, so she shouldn't notice .......well she didn't this afternoon!!!

25 degrees!? Thats a bit hot, I'd say 22C is more like it. In my place its always the women who say they are cold and ask for the A/C to be changed. I say put a jumper on. At least you have that choice to put more clothes on. If you are only wearing a shirt at 26C and are sweating buckets there is not much else you can do to regulate the temp unless you want to be naked. :scared:

Haven't you noticed women have sensitive bits that need keeping warm? Plus, they don't want to be naked.

If in doubt keep it a degree or two warmer - then it is working less and is burning up less energy. Also makes it easier to adjust between A/C inside and stepping outside!

(Although skinny girl could also just wear another layer)

Love the fake dials on people's desks!
