Sorry Jayne, been away for a few days so only just seen this.

I'm not sure where I'm going yet - will start in Adelaide (hopefully with OAA) and then see where in SA I get a job. I'm an engineer, so may end up working somewhere around the Elizabeth area, but will just have to wait and see.

Hello all

This is a question for the ones already in Adelaide,

I am looking for suggestions on Primary schools and nursery for the kids, I am heading to Blakeview as thats where brother in law is so i think that's north (5114)

BIL pays for private school but we don't want another bill and having to put 3 kids through school will be looking for a state school. any good recommendations?

Thanks all

paula

I am not positive - so don't quote me. But I think my ~Uncle said he only had to do a computerised test - not a physical driving test.

Good luck for when you get over there - This time last year we were just landing in Adelaide. Absolutely fell in love with the place. If I could I would move yesterday - even hubby said if there had been a way to stay - we wouldn't have come back. Unfortunately OH now has a bit of the wobbles 'cause his Dad isn't very well - and his whole family have basically said - if he goes he might as well forget he's got them!! Nice eh!

So he is suffering at the moment - I am trying to get the cash together to go for another holiday - jig his memory abit - think of our kids who have their lives ahead of them. Not a couple of sixtysomethings that have done nothing but Cr*p on him in the 16yrs we've been together - OOOh little bit of venting going on - sorry guys

WEATHER - to put it in perpective - we went out for the day with friends to Noarlunga - they had thick hoodies and jeans on! We had vest tops and cropped trousers Yes they said we were nuts cuz it was too cold for that sort of clothes?? it was 18 degrees - british summer

I know what u mean re families

My mom not too well at the mo but haven't got on for 10 years but now i'm going she has come round a bit but it's not stopping us but putting things into perspective that life is to short,

After years of planning this we are now so close to living the dream and with all due respect to family they are not gonna stop us as we have our own family unit and we are doing what's right for us.

6 Weeks and counting

Blakeview is very North - all my resaerch has been South Side - we stayed with Aunt & Uncle in Greenwith directly south under blakeview. Very nice round there - got some good shopping Malls and saw the kids from the local schools around - all looked very smart. But that was one of the things that amazed me with Oz - even the kids are very polite and friendly - not like the filthy looks & grunts you get in Walsall.

Back to the point - we preferred South (Aberfoyle Park ish) aas it seems more young family focused. North side seemed more older families. Also lots of Ozzies we spoke to said similar types of things. Wendy is Northside and is an absolute world of information all on her own Many a question has been answered by the Wendybird!!

We were heading to Perth initally untill we were hit with the reality of house prices, but thought we would head ro Adelaide where relatives are and hopefully to make money on property as they predict the next big boom id in SA

Good luck with TRA

I'll answer this question later today as I've got to take kids to school just now, the I HAVE to go shopping

And No you don't need to do a driving test if you have a full licence, it's just a straight swap

If Blakeview is north of Greenwith, then you are almost in flipping Darwin! Greenwith is about the end of civilisation as far as Adelaide goes. There are some nice schools up that way, with Greenwith Primary being fairly new and smallish. The kids would go to Golden Grove Secondary, which is an ok school. It is also in a new area and is a newish school.
For driving licenses, we're Canadian and just had to go to the motor vehicle office and pay our $$. They took a rather nice photo of me and said it would be in the post by the next week. I even kept my Ontario license. No tests, nothing.
Once you get here you can find your own suburb, depending on where you are going to work. My friends who live in Greenwith commute to Unley to work, and it's about 45-50 minutes each way. Most Aussies would think that is an exorbitent amount of time to spend on the road every day. You may want to look at something a little closer to the city. There are some really lovely suburbs in the north. We are in Klemzig, which is just northeast of the city (8km) but right on the main flight path for the airport. The next suburb over, Oakden is very new and really nice. It's less than 15 minutes to the heart of the city but it's leafy and quiet with a really nice little shopping centre and lots of parks. Paradise is also very nice and right on the O-Bahn bus line. If you take one of the O-Bahn busses you can be in the city in no time!
When are you thinking of coming out?
