Not really. I think you're being naive. It can be used, and is used. You're not being the IT helpdesk city council bloke type again are ya?

That's not to say that a happening area can be vibrant in the way you mean.

Just a shame that only 1 in 10 of them actually go to the games.

When i was young Croydon was not even considered as being part of London.
I still feel around Crystal Palace is more suburbia, that's the impression i always got when i went to see Chelsea play at Selhurst Park. rows and rows of terraced housing.

Rotherhithe would be my epicentre of proper old school Sarf London dodgy as fark.

Exactly - that's what I'd have done/have done

But when you've spent as much time as I have travelling solo in Nicaragua, Colombia etc I guess you get a better perspective on these things

And so it is - outside Central London - London IS suburbia...as a girl I met once said of parts of South London - unfortunately - 'white trash' suburbia...an agent said to me that the reason why the gentrified parts of S London were capable of being gentrified was because the housing stock was sufficiently interesting. The suburban housing further south is of lower quality stock.

Rotherhithe - but this would be vaguely cool now that Docklands and Canary Wharf and towers have been built. It really is all relative.

To add a bit of balance just because an area is vibrant - or - gritty(!) doesn't mean it can't be a good place to live or indeed connect with. I remember my mother liking the East end because there were all sorts of genuine people and a sense of community. So 'vibrancy' can mean solidarity/pride too. I met an Old Kent Road Londoner -the sterotypical S London 'gent'. He was an old boy made good.

I quite honestly have no idea what that means.

Yehp remember it clearly Croydon Surrey.

You mentioned the no name team with no rivals though and bused in supporters from Kent.... I think thats what actually got me.. The valley is 11.6ks from Charing Cross and Selhurst is 12.6ks.

There seem to be lots of regeneration projects going on in London - Kings Cross is completely revamped and connected to Eurostar, the 'Shard' - an immense structure is going up at London Bridge - and I haven't seen the Olympic complex yet in the East End. London really seems to be buzzing on patriotism and austerity - quite a sort of 40s vibe. It's certainly a more positive and exciting feel compared to last year.

It's just incredibly cheap being here. Clothes, dining out, supermarkets are a fraction of the price of Mackay. Cappuccino £1.50, pint of Stella £2.25, 2 course lunch in nice restaurants £12 ...

Roughly 3 to 4 times the price. Low quality, low choice, zero ambience - with all due respect to Mackay it is remote and a mining town so what can really be expected. I'm just loving my gastronomic, spa, treatments whirlwind visit to the Smoke. Shetlands next week with the olds.

Nice. 3 x 4 times the price would be hard to bare in a place where there is no mining wage.

Keep us posted mate.
