Borrow at low interest in UK, invest the money in Aussie high yield instruments. Take out a forex forward contract if you're afraid of FX risk (although I think the AUD will depreciate to less than parity with the commodity prices going down).
The Japanese have been doing these carry trades.

The fact is a fair majority of backpacker irish from the south are only experienced in block work and work a lot slower than the australian bricklayers . I even was racist towards my own and would never hire a brit , always excuses for not working ie cats dead , motor broke down etc etc .
I had a full australian crew , they worked harder , they were used to heat and the quality of work was better . just my experience ,others may have had a different story .
most of it was just down to the fact especially with the irish was they wernt up to speed on how the bricklaying industry works in WA , ie the guage is different , the heavy use of profiles , the ability to work gable pitches just given the width and angle of roofs without a carpenter having to cut a pattern , understanding that you just dont get a three quarter in a wall except up the side of a front door ,understanding that kitchens and bathrooms must be square and to size due to fact often they are designed around tile size too ,supplying your own building equipment and even scaffold at times , the list is endless .
now im back workin in the uk , the mumbling and fumbling about can be frustrating but why interfere thats the way its always been done here .

There's something seriously wrong with the world's financial system when bondholders, those people and institutions who invested in the banks, are let off the hook. Talk about moral hazard.
Capitalism is supposed to be a system based on risk and reward. It seems that for investors there's guaranteed reward without risk and for taxpayers there's guaranteed risk without reward...
If our (crony) capitalist system isn't fixed, this will happen again and again.

after 20 years living in perth and working building battleaxe block developments all over perth i can understand the rather racial advert and i infact myself used to start irish but inevitable had to either sack them or reduce them to labouring duties .

I can't argue with that as I'm not in the industry, but I'm sure you'll agree that posting 'No Irish' in your ad is a no no. Thats the only issue I have with this. It sends out a ridiculous message that the Irish are hopeless.

Well as Eire looks like it's utterly boned for generations, my guess is that they still want the North to be part of a united Ireland, but they will now be arguing that England should pay for it all.

There is a big lesson for a potentially independent Scotland in what is happening to Ireland.
