Project Management Work in Barbados
Hi there! Please can anyone advise what the job market is like for Project Managers in Barbados, particularly, but not limited to, the IT sector?
I'm finding it really difficult to get any hits when searching on the web for this, so either it's not too buoyant or very hard to find out any information
Any information greatly appreciated thanks!

Re: Project Management Work in Barbados
Hi OZ
Im an IT consultant and had a business in Barbados for a few years till recently. The current market is not condusive to outside consultants. The IT market is definitely 1st generation in its approach to IT ie basic field engineering and 1st line support. The banks who are the major IT players apart from the Telecoms companies centralise a lot of their IT from Trinidad and Jamaica. The UWI grads are very IT focussed and aware but things such as ITIL and Prince do not exist in the infrastructure etc. Barbados will eventually rollout their Eportal but the current government which came in about 2 years ago is very focussed on using internal resourcing only and they are not as encouraging in outside Consultants as the previous government.
I had to face the fact that the market in Barbados is just not ready currently for project management or IT consultancy and am not prepared to pay further time and money in investing in creating the market. Trinidad and Jamaica woudl be a better consideration for an IT consultant but of course Barbados is the jewel in the crown for lifestyle living.
