Smile Are Podiatrists needed in barbados?

Hi, am new to the site and have been coming to Barbados as a tourist with my husband for over 20 years. Our aim has always been to retire/semi retire to Barbados if possible..We are now thinking about the possibility of actually setting up a clinic much earlier and working full time. Does Barbados need foot care? We are both qualified podiatrists and do everything from general chiropody to toe nail reconstruction and lower limb assessments. We are also strongly interested in Diabetes and prevention of foot conditions related to this disease.

If anyone could help us gather some information regarding this we would be most grateful

Not to discourage you, however, there are several podiatrist in Barbados. Having said that, Barbados also has one of the highest rates of Diabetes in the world and you may be able to do something here that other foot care specialist might not (who knows?!?!).

I really couldn't tell you were to start in your search to "get here" however, you might contact someone in the medical profession to see what is needed and if you fit the bill.

let me also just add.. you can't just come here, open and clinic and start working.. soo you need to investigate that side of things as well.

Thanks for your reply appreciate your comments.

We have been expats ourselves in several places across the globe, so just wanted a bit of feed back. We have noticed over the years the number of Podiatrists increasing and there is no point even starting to think about a move earlier if there are too many Podiatrists already in Barbados.

Don't worry we would never presume that we could just move into a country and set up shop!

Actually what we would like to do is apart from the clinic is to help train others, perhaps put them through the qualifications needed and do voluntary work in the Diabetes field, educating at schools etc, which is what we have done in the past
Many thanks again
Best Wishes
Elaine
