Default Moving to Barbados and starting business

Hi everyone. My daughter is married to a Bajan and is planning to move back to B'dos this year. They are expecting a baby in April and my daughter wants me to be with her to help with the baby. As I will in effect have a Bajan family, how long will I be allowed to stay. Also what are the rules regarding starting a business.

You will be allowed to stay in theory anythign up to 6 months however a lot of people are only actually getting stamped at airport for 1 month and then have to go to immigration to extend.

The rules re starting a business are that anyone can do that and you need to go thru a lawyer to register it for you. However, the irony is that you will not be allowed to work for it yourself without a work permit and at present the chances of getting one are next to nothing - this is my experience and that of all the cases my lawyer is currently handling

Hope this helps

Yeah, my experience and what I'm hearing from others is the same - you're fine to own a business here, but you probably won't be able to work within it.

If you can think of something that will make you enough money to employ Bajan nationals to run it for you and still earn you a living, there are theoretically no obstacles - but I'd do A LOT of research first! Barbados attracts a lot of ex-pat investors and entrepreneurs because of the lack of capital gains tax, and it's a small island, so you'll find a lot of business areas and services are saturated with providers. Good luck to you if you find an opportunity others are missing, though!
