is it worth doing ECDL ???
I am hopefully going to be temping while studying and with all the emphasis on certificates and assessements just wondered if it would be useful to do a basic IT course like ECDL (european computer driving licence) to prove I can switch a computer on.
any thoughts or experience?

I have looked into it and there is something called an international computer driving licence but you can only do the european one here, However I have googled.com.au ECDL and there were loads of matches so it is recognised.
how are you finding it?

easy peasy - i completed the first module in a couple of days - i have been using computers for a couple of years now, but needed to formally kind of consolidate it all!! (if that makes sense?)
plus its free through the nhs trust i work for!
good luck with it......

I completed mine recently, it does get harder! I'm told they do recognise and even teach the ECDL in Oz. My motivation was to show on my c.v. that I have kept my skills up to date, keen to learn and all that c**p

i did my CLAIT last year, and that was a piece of p**s. i am in the middle of ECDL at mo, after loads of problems at the beginning of the course, with swapping 'suppliers', and the tutor being in hospital. you do have to do more work with it, and it is more demanding, but not too bad.
my hubbie asked why am i still doing my courses if we intend going to aus, and like the reply above, want a few strings to my bow to show prospective employers that i can still learn, etc, etc.
go for it, it is a good course, i do it for 2 hours every week, so it can be quite time consuming. it is split into ECDL part 1 and part 2. part 1 is 3 certain modules, and part 2 is the rest, but you can't go onto part 2 until part 1 is passed.
good luck

Hi there
I completed the ECDL and have been told it is recognised, the manuals by the way were only £2/£3 per module
Got my course free too, only had to pay £20 exam fees total and pay for the manuals I wanted
Go for it and good luck

That said, Australian *employers* can recognise anything they like, but they will only give credit for something they've heard of.

I have looked into this, working on IT Helpdesk myself & found that most of the Aussie employers I habve spoken to seem to prefer ICDL rather than ECDL... http://www.acs.org.au/icdl/
I am also doing the Microsoft Office Specialist Qualification as MS course are recognised the world over.
Hope that helps,
Claire
