working in a Private vs public hospital
Hello
I just wanted to know if anyone could help me out!
could anyone tell me if it is better to work in a private or public hospital. With regards to prospects, salary and job satisfaction. I am a Nurse who works on a surgical ward in the uk.
Me, my husband and 2 young children are looking to come out in the next two years. We were thinking Brisbane.
If anyone could tell me any hospitals in Brisbane and some nice areas to live with a young family I have a 6 year old and a 4 year old..
A good hospital and good school would be a bonus.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you

You may not have any choice in Brisbane as there is now very little recruitment to public hospitals. There have been many redundancies and a lot of unemployed graduates so there is a lot of competition for what jobs may become available.
Private sector may be a better bet but there are a lot of local nurses looking for work.
Generally conditions are much better in the public sector.

AFAIK you cant get salary packaging in the private sector which is worth at least 12 to 15pct extra on your take home pay. Ergo I think public sector nurses are generally better pay and conditions.
Just checked re Salary Packaging.... Private hospitals can offer their staff Salary Packaging (Tax Benefits) as long as they are not for profit hospitals.
