Default Working away and living in Oz

My wife, two kids and I are moving out to Perth in October and as with alot of you I have found this site great as a source of the general feeling about Oz.
I have worked and played with Australians and I have found a good percentage of these people have their feet on the ground. I might have just been lucky but I just like their outlook. I have worked in some strange places and no matter where I am it has been the people not the place that has been one of the major contibutions to the enjoyment. The Australian oultlook works for me.
I am currently working in Yemen with a few Canadians, Aussies, Arabs and Brits and in a place like this my previous statment might make more sense. Anyhow thats my opening contribution to this site.
I have not raised with my Austalian friends in the Yemen the prospect of paying tax in Oz. After spouting off about embracing their cutlure I feel a bit hypocritical about asking do I have to pay tax if I am out of the country six months of the year. If anyone can help then great.
