Default Wood treatment

Hi there everyone

Great sunny day here in Waterlooville (a bit chilly though and still colder than Melbourne who are going into winter )

My question is this: We have some artefacts from South Africa that are made of wood (species unknown). They are carvings of rhino's hippo's, giraffes and a mask. My sister-in-law migrated over a year ago and they made her burn :scared: her giraffe because they said it hadn't been treated. Does anyone know where we can get our artefacts treated to avoid destruction as they are quite sentimental to us.

Any advice gratefully received.

Cheers Sarah

PS We are putting a chicken on our BBQ and having a glass of wine - anyone like to join us

Nope, cant, I am having some green tea. I have been told that that destroys free radicals and is thusly good for you. Now I know why the Bostunions had their Tea Party, they didn't want any of the this "free" stuff and certainly didn't want any "radicals" around.

You're right about the weather here, Melbourne is starting to cool down. I wore a sweater to work this morning.

If they are small enough microwave them. That's what an AQIS officer told me last year. Otherwise get a reputable firm to fumigate them and get a certificate. AQIS should have a website that explains what is required.

Hi Sarah

my son used to play in an African Djembe group and we had to sell his Beautiful Drum!

We also have a number of wood things, ie a large Malaysian cat, wood carvings, etc. We left them with the rest of our stuff, the shippers wrapped and packed them, then labelled the boxes 'Ornaments' - they were not inspected!!
