Re: Without a loan
Yes i meet all of those requirements.Any idea on length of time that takes. That job was not my only option as we are currently going through things with the company a new life abroad. They will be ringing us back with the best options to follow.

But on a PR visa you aren't tied to anyone or anywhere - and like the barclaycard advert, that is priceless! Because you have the freedom to choose where you work, what you work for, where you live etc. And if you have to take a lower paid job for a while at least you'll get some help - on a temporary visa you can get nothing and if your employer goes bust or decides you aren't what they are looking for you have just 28 days to leave the country.
Quickest and best are different things, remember that and you'll be fine.

Re: Without a loan
We now have option to move anywhere in Oz on a 175, we're not tied to a particular company or state which is exactly what we want.
We've been looking at wages etc in Brisbane (where we're heading) and they vary between $60k - $75k depending on what you do. My husband specialises in thin gauge alum (1.5mm to 6mm) so we're trying to find that kind of work.
If you need any info with regards to the TRA or anything else let me know... I'm a welders widow!

My husband got a 175 visa he's a welder/fab we applied to TRA with all his qualifications/references etc and they recommended him as a 1st class welder. Visa took 7 months (we didn't frontload anything... pregnancy got in the way! )

the wages you quote are unrealistic outside of mining etc.
you will get this with lots of overtime, but 45 - 50k is where you are likely to start as a basic. you are highly unlikely to start on more than 25 ph, or around 50k pa.
I came over as a welder first class, nearly 2 years ago. took my first job as a non working foreman ($ 27 ph)
left because the job was crap, got another non working foreman job and am now in the office as an estimator / office manager.
I have not met any welders on any more than $ 27-28 ph in a workshop. although it is possible, it is not the norm.

Re: Without a loan
What would you class as lots of over time? My OH works 50hr pw standard here; I understand the starting rates etc but he is very good at what he does and would ideally be looking at a supervisory role, although willing to start lower to get a foot in the door. Majority of work we've seen on recruitment sites vary between $25-$35 so we've been looking at the median of $30.

remember, added to the wage will be good overtime rates , leave loading and super. this is where the 75k comes in. you are right, if he is good , he will move up quickly as I did

I expanded a bit base on 25 ph, this is realistic. don't count on overtime in the current climate, but most places will be able to give you 50 hrs.

I should also mention that if you come out on a permanent resident visa then you would be eligible for some benefits.
For example, child benefits and day care benefits, etc. So it could make all the difference particularly if you're wife won't be working. You wouldn't get any of that on a temporary visa.
