Thank you all so much - what fantastically positive posts!!!
It's so nice to read the upside instead of people slagging off Australia for the stuff that they don't like! We're hoping to be there at the end of September - just in time for summer!!!!! Thank you for making me smile! :) Sonic xx |

A household is too small a unit for me to qualify as an Commanding Officer. (CO). She is the 2nd in command (2ic), however I give her the title COS as used in higher formations because I have decided to split her responsibilities into many, with a staff appointment for many and varied things. Money, shopping, childcare, intelligence(literally!), ideas, comfort, actually everything.....) She does all the hard work and is therefore given the accordant respect. She has OPCON, I have OPCOM. The major coup of course, is that she (and everyone else) is too busy, or thus confused to work out who is 'in charge' - to use modern day relationship terminology. Or she thinks she is in charge. Yes, a major coup.... |

Who is 'in charge', or 'wears the trousers' is a matter of opinion lol. The beauty of the military system is that everyone wins and gets the respect and treatment they deserve whatever their role. Incidentally, she does not do all the hard work, she does alot of it, and 'unpaid', too. And no this does not sound as 'bad' as it seems because that is no strange or unusual thing. So I salute her. Christ, now I am sounding like an old effing colonel. And she is definitely my No. 1 (to use Naval parlance).... |

Think when you have been with someone a long time, you just live with it, and get on - doing thing together and independantly naturally. :) |
Re: Will the REAL Australia please step forward?
Sod the military. Let's talk about Australia. ;)
Things that epitomise Australia for me: The heavy rising scent of Eucalyptus within the air Walking through the bush and capturing the most exquisite scent of a tea tree, or some scented native which you try to locate but just can't. Cafe society with fabulous coffee where Starbucks doesn't have the market share Telling an Aussie how much you love Australia and watching them beam with pleasure Speaking to someone in the country and wondering why they're talking twice as slow as you Sheer inventiveness with the most basic of foods Fantastic sunsets over massive skies Beautiful birds in the trees Real 'ocker' Aussies Bridges which are named after local hero's Local councils which are more concerned with making someone cover over a 30 year old work of art on a garage door than keeping graffitti off the local skate park and surrounding areas Australian advertising - probably the best advertising in the world |

She even knocked together some garden timber. I've almost given up cooking because she is so much better at it - that was a very natural thing - when I first met her she said she couldn't cook - what an absolute fib it turned out to be! When I do cook I make a real effort though!! |
