The Wii is very babyish, my 4yo loves it, but then he also loves Kung Fu Panda on the PS3 and Cars on the Xbox.

I'm heavily into games of all platforms, as are a lot of my colleagues in th IT industry (mostly 30 something males) so disagree that it is for kids. It's just the best gaming console full-stop.

You are a prime example of how the PS3 has actually failed as a platform though - i.e you don't play games on it and this is one of their biggest revenue streams because they sell the consoles at a loss.

Mine is purely used as a Blu-ray player which it does well at. As a media centre though I think Xbox is better especially combined with the Windows Media Center on a PC.

The only problem with the 360 as a media centre is that it sounds like a jet fighter taking off.

Yeah, that is annoying but usually not so noticeable playing a game.

I used to be a serious (competitive) gamer, until we moved to Australia, and my machine of choice was a PC. So in fairness I was never in their gaming console demographic, even though I have owned pretty much every make of console since my first Atari, Calicovision and Intellivision.

Consoles for me were always kids toys compared to the capability of a FPS on a high-end gaming PC. Now that's not the case, but I still can't really ever get the hang of the console controllers. Not in the same way I could make a character almost dance ballet like I could with a mouse and keyboard.

I still do play the occasional FPS on the PS3. IMHO the difference between the games on the two consoles only comes into play with the on-line services and capability of the XBox which totally outshines the PS3. Sony totally balls'ed up the on-line gaming aspect of the PS3.

I used to be but this generation of consoles has made me change over. Titles like Bioshock Fallout 3, Dead Space etc that are now released on console way before PC are too tempting and you get used to the controllers even though they'll never be as accurate as a mouse and keyboard. And the whole experience of relaxing on the sofa with an HDTV and surround sound is also far better than being huddled over a desk.
