Why so few going to Adelaide?

Why so few going to Adelaide?
When looking at where everyone is going/has gone in Australia, I see that people seem to go to Perth, Brisbane, or Melbourne. Very few seem to go to Adelaide. Is there a particular reason why nobody goes there? Is there high unemployment? Crime?
I would really appreciate any input. We're coming to the conclusion that we cannot afford to buy in our #1 choice (Perth), and are now seriously looking into Adelaide as an alternative.
Thanks!

We're going to Adelaide . Never been there but going on a reccie in 17 days . We've got rellies there. Adelaide is smaller, quieter and more laid back apparantly. Great for families and those that don't want theme parks/'exciting nightlife' etc - which is why we're going there!!!!!!

I'm going to adelaide. Was always first choice. Med climate, real seasons ,relaxed , friendly and yes cheaper than other states-but also wages are lower so cost of living probably the same. (although real estate cheaper so you may be able to buy outright or have lower mortgage if you have equity from UK) Some people think/assume it is dull it isn't on the holiday itinery for most people and it is small (population) but we like it and prefer the village areas in the hills to the urban sprawl.
You need to visit to be sure though it isn't for everyone and it may depend if there is work for you there.

Ive only been to Adelaide once and I loved it.
Funny though, after a month on the Sunshine Coast and a week on the Gold Coast, I found it cold!

I wasn't keen on Adelaide. I found it too small and boring. And their pint glasses are a rip-off ;-)
Seriously though, the only thing I liked about it was that they have an indoor snow centre.

Thanks, everyone. I feel much better about changing our plans now. Choosing a place to move is such a huge decision!! My husband and I are both very worried about whether we can find jobs when we arrive and what kind of house we can afford. We won't have a great deal of money to start with when we arrive, so want to get the most bang for our buck as far as houses go.
Lou, thank you for that link. Most excellent website.
And Sam, I don't think I'll feel cold at first...I'm from Canada after all. 2 months of blazing heat and 10 months of snow
Hope we can get to know some of the others going to SA so I'll have some friends there.

Hey Dorothy,
I've been watching the visa thread with interest.!!!!
I'm off to Adelaide in the next 6 weeks. We like the idea of real seasons and a temperate climate. My hubby is a paramedic so he will be out and about for his job and if it is too hot then this will make it unbearable for him.
I love extremes, so the seasonal change is a good thing for me. The thought of unbroken sunshine for much of the year gives me the heebyjeebies!!!!...............just my opinion - - -everyone is different.
Adelaide seems to tick all the boxes if you have a young family.
I may be proved completely wrong, but I'm prepared to give it a go!!!!
Hope to see you there and a or a coffee is up for grabs!!!!!!

I've never been to Adelaide so can't comment but i don't think I've met an Aussie who has a good thing to say about the place.

Although I suppose seeing someone post on expats isn't actually classed as meeting them

Re: Why so few going to Adelaide?
Adelaide can get very hot in the summer but also very cold and wet in the winter.
It has extremes although the average temperatures may look 'moderate'.
I was going there but my son has requested a transfer back to Brisbane with his company. They have agreed otherwise he would have left anyway.
He has previously lived in Brisbane and Sydney and Adelaide was, by far, his least favourite despite being very well off thare as he is a high earner by national standards.
If you read the Adbrits site you will find that many people move on from Adelaide after a while. This may be partly due to it being easier to get into South Australia and so many have no choice.
I think it is a nice town but doubt if I would really want to live there.
