Weve been looking at this too! We reckon we fancy a Nissan X-Trail , and to be honest, it looks like a better deal to buy a brand new one, becasue at least you get the warranty

Why are second hand cars sooooooooooo expensive here. Cos we have paid enough for it when we first bought them that we dont want to lose so much money when we come to sell it.

Depreciation is a lot slower than in Britain. Reminds me of when the UK was in a similar situ years ago. Aus is like that now, but may change as the population grows rapidly.

Which causes a big demand for (cheaper) second hand cars. Oz incomes mean new cars are a luxury, think new car ownership only really went up in the housing boom, due to people making money and borrowing against houses.
Look at the roads I cant think of many countries that have so many old vehicles on the road. Please now dont someone suggest India or something
![Roll Eyes](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Plus most families need (due to lack of public transport) more than one car, one for mum, one for teen(s). Even if they can afford one new, my bets the others will be second hand.
Petrol is cheap compared to UK but work out how many cars you will need and how far you will drive to get a more accurate picture.

If you can afford it go for a new car, you get a 5 yr warranty on them, we bought a new Daihatsu for under A$ 14,000 Its a great car, and we are glad we didnt spend a similar amount on a used car of about 6 or 7 years old. Daihatsu have a model currently available for A$ 10,990 you cant grumble at that price, and as they hold their value so well you would only lose a couple of grand if you sold in 2 or 3 years time.

Put it in the container and fill it with your stuff.
Sure you'll have to get it compiant once you are here and it will be a bit of hassle but the difference of £3000 is about $7500 - that's a lot of money over here.
I regret not having brought my VTEC Prelude, I could have made a huge profit bringing it over and flogging it.
