We're on tank water thankfully. Blimey, just read that again, per quarter bloody hell, I'm stressing and ours is that half yearly!

Oh I bet you someone will have.... except petrol, which always gets added to the quote.

I know Australia is expensive and I'm just being a bit fly with some of my comments of late, primarily, because of the claims we are seeing more and more of just how 'cheap' the UK is now.
It's funny because I can't remember a single occasion, in all the time I lived in the UK, where I sat back and said to myself "I ******g love this country, it's just so bloody cheap to live here"... never heard that from anybody else either.

My Jetta takes 55l of diesel which costs me $76 and lasts me 3 weeks, so $25 and a bit a week, no big deal at all.

That's nothing.

Costs me about $65 to fill up my Tuscon 4WD V6 and it lasts about a month.

Likewise.

No two cases are the same so for some the UK is cheaper and for others it will be Australia. Origin and destination locations as well as lifestyles and what you already possess come into play. There are a myriad of scenarios.

I've chosen to live in Australia so really it doesn't matter to me what the comparisons are with the UK or anywhere else.

It does however rankle me when I see personal circumstances or experiences presented in such a way that they are applicable to everyone and the whole country.

Prospective migrants read these pages in their fact finding quest and sweeping statements are not going to help anyone come to a realistic conclusion.

Yeah but I don't drive it much at the moment.
It stays in the garage most of the month.

To be perfectly honest, this is a true reflection of BE.

There are a lot of people who gush about how expensive Australia is and leave you in no doubt they mean the whole thing, everywhere, all the time.

I find many things very reasonable in Australia. Only electricity has suddenly risen to make me change my mind on that one. But I know people complain about rises in the UK too.

I do remember people complaining about rip off Britain - in particular cars 10 years ago so I believe a lot of progress was made in that area.

But the UK is not universally cheap either.

Indeed. And when I present my circumstances, I'm very clear that I'm not a shopoholic, or someone who wrings their hands over consumerism or suburban living.
