White goods NZ
#1
Just arranged for 3 different shipping companies to come give us quotes. Does anyone know the price of white goods in NZ,dont really want to take washing machine, fridge, freezer and dishwasher because they are all past their best anyway. Also how much are TVs we have got 3 portable tv/video combi's but dont know whether they will even work in NZ so dont know whether to take and the main tv is not worth taking. One last question is the sky box and satelitte dish worth taking will that work over there
Thanks
Thanks

this site should answer most of your questions regarding prices.
I doubt the sky equipment would work, but I don't know for sure.

Thank you
There dont seem to be any free standing gas cookers are electric more common, ours is all electric anyway with halogen top will it work ok on NZ voltage if we ship it.
Which are the most favoured washing machines .. front loaders or top loaders.. top loaders seem good but would have to have it in a separate laundry room whilst a front loader can fit right into the kitchen
Thanks again for the link

lol
nobody has their washing machine in their kitchen in NZ! everybody has a separate laundry room - washer, drier, big tub/basin for filling buckets and the like, ironing board all that stuff....
The only exception would be if you lived in a 1 bedroom flat or something. I've lived in plenty of 2 bedroom places and even those had a laundry 'cupboard' in the very least.
Almost everyone has toploaders. and people usually have separate driers also - not combo washer/driers.
Lots of people have gas cookers, dunno whether free standing is uncommon. probably not as widespread as in the UK, but still a lot around. Not sure about your other question re voltage...

Thanks for the info ... we have a utility room where our fridge, freezer and washer are but it is a poor excuse for a utility room to be honest, you couldnt swing a cat in it .. lol .. not that Id want to of course. Most houses in NZ having a laundry room where you can stuff the ugly appliances, ironing board etc sounds great and makes good sense.

We have a separate laundry like many but I was surpirsed at them number of smaller apartments where the plumbing for the washing machine was in the bathroom -including the electricity supply. We saw one where the drainage for the washer was in the shower!!
On a serious note tho, there was a little girl died in her family bathroom recently and it was supected that it had something to do with the electrics of the washing machine, which was in the bathroom.

Check you have gas as lots of places in NZ don't. They have this real dodgy was a having a gas cylinder under the sink which can't be safe. Electric rules here.
Re. the TV, they transmit teresttrial on VHF and UHF so your TV will probably only receive a couple of channels like Prime and Shine? You maybe able to get it converted but we couldn't get our Sony done as it didn't have a VHF unit. Also, the sub-carrier containing the sound is on a different offset from the main picture so this will sound like crap at best.
You can pipe it all through a NZ video if all else fails but selling and buying another here is your best bet. Things like that aren't too pricy relatively speaking...
