Default Where in Perth?

We got our visa's about a month ago now and have decided to just up and go around jan 2006, Me, wife and baby girl.

We're going to head to Perth, we have never been before but everyone we asked who has said they loved it there. A bit of a gamble we know, but hey, in for a penny in for a pound.

We're after some advise of suburbs to rent a house, usual family type considerations required.

Also, what is the social scene like, we will not know a single person when we get there and are kean to get out and meet new people.

Thanks,

Terry, Nat & Amy

We're also off to Perth on 3rd Sept and will be staying in Greenwood. Not sure what the social scene is like, my husband is there at the moment and says everyone seems to go to bed at 9.30!!

Heres a suburb guide http://www.aussiemove.com/city/city.asp?f=9&c=7

HI there we are also hoping to be off to Perth in 2006 and have the same questions as you re family and such like - we have a 1 year old and a 3 year old. Andy does have an uncle there but he lives down south in Mandurah. Lots of people on here seem to rave about the northern suburbs. Heres a good place to start I'm sure you'll get lots of feedback. Did you see the thread about the coffee morning for newbies to Perth.

cheers for the words so far everyone,

I guess we've got some serious e-networking to do before we go.

I should imagine you'll be hearing a lot more from us over the next few weeks.

Thanks,

we're looking to rent a house.

I'm an electrician by trade, and have specialised in electronic security for the past few years, access control, CCTV, that sort of thing. I have also worked in project management for technical trades.

But I can turn my hand to pretty much anything realy, anything to pay the bills.

Yup. The Greenwood is a really good pub.
We've got 20 tickets booked there for the AFL Grand Final day.

We live in Rockingham, about 45min drive from the city, 10min walk to the beach one way, 15min walk to the shopping centre the other way. Like yourselves we came here, having never been here before and indirectly knew two people who were relatives of friends. Personally we do not like the Northern suburbs as a place to live although there does seem to be more work there, although there as lots of work here if you are in a trade. We have friends who moved to the Northern suburbs after living here and are moving back here next week after finding they didn't like it. We have lovely beaches here, a cappucino strip with lots of nice eateries, a couple of british pubs, watersports galore in the summer, lots of little play parks for small children, lovely places to go walking, enough shops for most of your need's, depending on how active you want your social life to be you may find it a little quiet here, especially in the low season. We rent a large brand new 3 by 2 house on a new estate for $210 per week. You will find a good quality 4 by 2 rental from $200-250 per week, the higher end of that could even get you a house with a pool. We are planning to move further away from the coast to either Settlers Hill which we love and you get more for your money being further from the beach, or Mandurah which we are told is beautiful, we are going down there in a couple of weeks so we shall see for ourselves. They are in the process of putting in a train line here for 2007, so house prices are going to rocket after this. Overall though we have found this a very friendly, laid bck place to live.

we are in Butler and are more than happy with it, we have a great Community, always something going on, by this time next year we will have our own pub too, walking distance from the front door.
