We tend to stay in WA and head up North to Exmouth/Cape Range for a couple weeks a year. But we don't really have set *holidays* as such as we just take time out and do things whenever we want (we don't have any work commitments).
Bali is one of the cheapest places to go for a break (especially from Perth).
I would never consider flying back to the UK as a holiday!

h.
flights in oz are so cheap. plenty of very efficient hostels that are spotless for a fiver anight too.
try
www.virginblue.com.au
or
www.jetstar.com.au
i think these are right, but they are oz s version of easyjet type carriers.
print off e tickets and off you go. they were both great and no hassle with checkin for us recently.

Re: where do you holiday
I like to drive, so most of my holidays are spent touring, just finding a place to stay as and when the mood takes me.
For the ultimate destination, Broome takes a lot of beating, with o/night stop in Geraldton, Kalbarri; Coral Bay, Exmouth or Port Samson; Port Hedland or South Hedland; then on to Broome, where there's a fabulous eco-tourist place some miles down the coast. Having gone up the coast road, I come back down through the inland route; Meekatharra, New Norcia etc, though sometimes I've diverted through Wiluna and Kalgoorlie. The South-West is also a lovely drive, but I do find my wheels heading North almost of their own volition!
