When you go to open a bank account what ID do they require?
Do you need proof of address or just your passport?
Thanks

I'm not too sure about opening one once you arrive there, but it's quite easy to open one from here, we did it with HSBC, you have to deposit 2 thousand dollars to open but can draw it out again.

Hope this helps

Take as much as you can.
You have to get 100 points.

Passport (including visa) is very good.
But some more. Maybe overseas driving license, bankcard with name etc.
Just take everything that you can find!!
Don't think proof of address is necessary, just an address.

We went with hsbc, and gave our temporary address(a friends). Still haven't changed it 3 months later... la di da...
And still on only 1 card between us, cos I didn't have enough ID with me(no visa, I'm an aussie, ). And still haven't bothered to get that sorted!(working fulltime, when do I get to a bank????!!)

good luck. You'll be right. If you forget something, just go back the next day!

Open your account when you get here within 6 weeks and your passport will count for the points. After that you'll need more ID, such as birth cert etc and it can get messy. Took me about 5 mins to open an account up a week after I got here.

Thanks for the advice.
I was not sure if the requirements were the same over there as they are here and didn't want to go to the bank and have them say "Sorry sir but you need x,y and z extra to open an account
