It really arrives after you've been there a few weeks.... and realise the holiday is over.... the hard work is just beginning.

For me it was the night before. Everything packed in the car and ready to just get up, dress, eat and drive to airport for my early morning flight.

All the goodbyes done, people sleeping soundly (or trying to at least).

Then you're on the plane and it's "Wow, it's really happening".

Been here just over 3 weeks now. The first week is pretty rough. Gets easier then.

Mum's put the knife in and twisted it just a little more today.
My thoughts couldn't have been clearer after her cruel remark. I'm even more determined to push on with the move now.

just noticed that you are staying in Dee Why. How are you finding it. We loved Manly and all around that part of coast, esp Harbourd. Are you renting?

We leave in two weeks and i'm up and down all the time. When we meet up with friends for farewell drinks etc it really hits me, but at home i'm fine. I still feel like its not really happening! Lifes carrying on as normal during the day, school runs and toddler groups etc.

Today was the last morning i'll have to myself for who knows how long but it still isn't sinkin in properly. Glad to hear i'm not the only one. U feel really bad when you don't seem to feel anything until people keep bursting into tears in front of you.

I know how you feel! Just come back from yet another work do and still not sinking in. People crying (maybe I was a good boss after all ;-) ) and stuff but does not seem to get to me. After Bondi's message I am dreading Heathrow.........

Bet you've all forgotten me already and I haven't even gone yet! Flying visit to check the emails and I just HAD to have a browse through the site. Only time to answer this one, I'll be back for more on Wednesday.......
So....when does it really hit you? Just spent a week with my sister and her family, 3 kids - 10,8,and 3 - my 10 year old nephew thinks I'm the best thing ever, and I don't think he understands - asked if I would be up for Christmas, bless him. The 8 year old is just measuring how many presents she will miss out on if I don't visit as often, and the 3 year old is my god-daughter, and is the image of me at the same age. They are coming to Heathrow on Friday to meet for something to eat, and cos my sister really wants to, but I won't have them in Terminal 3, then they don't see me walk away through Security. Getting on the train tonight though, like I always do, and waving goodbye - thats when it hit.

Be ready for it folks - doesn't matter how tough you think you are, and how well you think you will cope. It WILL hit you, and there WILL be tears.

Off to find the tissues now.......

I l ike Dee Why. The Cafes are nice (bit pricey, but foods good). I like that there are like 5 bread shops within 2 blocks and the basics are very easy to get to. Warringah Mall is 5 min bus ride, Manly is 25 min bus ride, work (Frenchs Forest) is 15 min bus ride. I don't think I need to get a car for a while. The only pain is furniture and heavy items (I have to use taxi or delivery for that).

Yup, renting (2 BR for $300/pw). That seems to be the going rate for 2 BR right now (who knows it may drop since everyone is predicting rental oversupply).

I think I'll stay in Dee Why for a while. Dee Why beach is really nice (and there's the lagoon too, so it's like a 2 in 1 nature bonus). Had my first free weekend just past and it felt REALLY good to just hang out at the beach with the breeze and the sub (boy it's intense, already tanning and it's not even Summer temps yet). There's surfers there everyday and I saw para-surfers (I guess you call them that, think surfers being pulled by parachutes) this weekend.

Harbord was on my list, but from people in the area they said it was more residential and harder without a car.
