Default When arriving - accommodation

Hi there

We dont know anybody over in Oz - so we are not sure what to do when we arrive there.

Are we best to book into a hotel for a week - or are there some sort of Travelodge places. Is it best to sort all this in the UK - or physically wait until we arrive in perth.

Has anybody taken out a 6-month rental whilst being in the UK - over the internet. If so, how did you arrange to pay for this in advance (presuming you would have to pay it in advance?).

Any advice would be appreciated!

Laura and Gordon

We haven't gone yet so this might be the blind leading the blind so to speak however;

Our plan is to book a holiday apartment for 2-3 weeks whilst trying to arrange a rental. When we last visited Oz we booked a holiday let apartment and it was good value tidy and spacious so we intend to do the same for our moving trip in early 07.

Thanks for this information - did you find the let apartment on the internet. Can you recommend a website or something?

We found it on the web try googling vacation rental and the city you want. Also we put a credit card number down to reserve it and paid like a hotel when we left. We were thinking of keeping 1 uk credit card on for initial stuff whilst we sort out our Oz bank cards.

Hi,

I can recommend this: http://www.lifestyle-objects.com/Index.html.
We stayed there and it is really nice. It's a fully furnished apartment in Ardross, close to the huge Garden City (Shopping Centre).
We booked it for our first two weeks in Perth and in this time we looked for a rental.

Cheers
Thomas

i believe a common way to do this is to book holiday accomodation for the first few weeks.. gives you a chance to arrive with nothing and still live day to day, and then you can look about and decide on an area to find something more permanent
we did this and it worked out fine.. we used http://www.rent-a-home.com.au/
