Hi Nicky

Mark fits double glazed windows, doors and conservatorys, so hopefully there is a market. He is a qualified Carpenter and Joiner by trade though so should be ok for work. I believe that a lot of the windows are aluminium in Oz (dont shout at me if thats wrong) so he should be ok if he has fitted them too.

I did have a look at the yellow pages web site in Oz to see if there were any companies and there was quite a few. Dont worry too much im sure he wont have too much of a problem finding work.

There is a nightmare law now in NSW called BASIX - you have to fill out a computer form with all the details of your proposed build before you are even allowed to put it to planning, and get a certificate committing you to the enetered details.

Double glazing now carries, on this BASIX, plus points so there will have to be more of it being used. However, to date there is very very little to be seen. Our temperatures in winter are around minus five - seven at night yet I can count the number of double glazed houses I've seen over 15 months looking for property on the fingers of a digitally-challenged chainsaw operator! So the job prospects on that count are minimal I would guess.

Don't let the Myth Mongers see that - they'll be telling you that he'll need 3 years training for those jobs

Good luck -have fun
