Read the smallprint in a lot of the special offers, and you'll see they specify "No lay-by" and ""No rainchecks"

hi
Thanks everyone, feeeling considerably less thick now.
Was going to ask in the shop, but would have been a bit embarrassed  You've saved me.

when I saw the title of this post, vague negative responses came in to my head - think of it as anticipating possible responses.
I've thought someone might come up with this, and I thought of you!

Not being a shopper, I thought a raincheck was some sort of IOU due to a cancellation - eg from when an event is cancelled because it might have rained etc and thought that no rainchecks meant no ''special offers'' or promotions.

The term, "rain check" is originally from The USA.
If it rained at a sporting event meaning that the game had to be postponed, the organisers would give you a docket as you left the stadium to prove you'd already paid for your ticket. This was known as a rain check, (American spelling of cheque) which you then used to gain free entry to the re-arranged event.
Hence the analogy, "rain check" meaning a docket proving you've paid, but with the understanding that you'll be back at a later date to collect.

on the lay-by thread, put some toys away for xmas at myers and target, it is great.
just have to go in every 2 weeks and pay some off, and no toys in the house until xmas eve.
that will annoy the kids, when they go searching for them early!!!!

Vash is correct
...you are definately not buying anything on tick with lay-by, like he says, you are paying for it
I have taken a raincheck many times (when it's been available)
