December = horrible, stay indoors and out of the sun all costs, AC on.
People bang on about wonderful Brisbane weather but for 6 months of the year it is crap. When the hot weather comes you also get the flies and mosquitoes back.

July = nice, maybe a bit cooler than UK summer but at least you can go outside.

Brisbane and the gold and sunshine coasts have less flies than anywhere I have been in OZ in summer, they just dont seem to get the bush fly plagues that you get in WA, Melb, country NSW, etc. Sure you will get flies if you pull out food, but you simply dont get the flies that come in droves and get into your nose, eyes, ears and crawl all over your back etc
Agree though, summer is not aus best season, from december till march OZ weather sucks big time, nearly everywhere.

Brisbane weather is mild in comparison to a lot of places in Australia - no extreme hot or cold and the humidity is minimal - maybe a week or two of really humid weather during the storm season.
I'm sure I'll freeze when we go back in the next month or so. At the moment it's 10am where I am and the temperature is 35 and humid, it will probably be 45 to 50 by mid afternoon. So we really are confined indoors for most of the day, and it's a three month school holiday here. Give me Queensland weather any day, it's a big part of the reason we're going back.

Re: Whats it like living in Queensland
thanks for all the interesting comments, i suppose the grass is always greener. I do love the island, summer is fantastic, but the winter seems long, although there is work here and is great for the kids. Just frustrates me that the nearest decent shopping centre is about 1 1/2 hours away!!
