We have both a French bank account and a UK bank account...would it benefit us to exchange Euros to Aus$ or GBP to Aus$ or would it work out the same? We are using HIFX.

An interesting mathematical exercise: is your income paid in euros or GBP?

At the moment, sterling is valued at 11% more than Euro, and exchange rate of GBP to dollar vs Euro to dollar is 11% different as well. So nothing in it.

BUT exchange rate of Euro to pound is at all time low, so does that mean you should buy GBP with your euro?

Best thing - get quotes for absolute numbers of dollars and make the choice, but pretty close at the moment.

Your choice....

Arbitrageurs keep the exchange rates in line with each other. We changed our Euros->$ first as we were living in the UK at the time, the Euro interest rates were lower than £ interest rates and the French banking system was archaic (at least CA, the bank we were using, was).

We used HIFX for both Euro->$ and for £->$ exchanges. We had no problems with them. Make sure you double check the account number your transferring to, you don't want to send Euros to their £ account.

Historically Stg is very low against the Euro.

I imported a VW from Holland to the UK in 2000 and I think the bank gave me 1.65+

Maybe be worth selling Euros for Pounds but who knows?

Good luck

I note that £-$ exchange rate increased at higher rate that Euro-£ today; 1% vs 0.1%.

So, today it looks as though you would have got more from Sterling.
Again, worth calculating absolute amount of dollars and going from there.
