Thanks guys, and Aussie_Pete, in our 3 month trip through QLD, NT, SA, VIC and NSW that was the only snake we saw. Tell your missus not to worry.

I thought it might be a tiger, but not 100% sure.
The wife stood there for about 5 minutes watching it and taking pikkies before it slithered off. I wonder if she would have been stood there so long, if she knew it was one of the most poisonous snakes in the world

I managed to get an angry dugite on my front lawn in the first couple of months here. Like most, was absolutely terrified of snakes but you deal with it as it comes along (have not seen any since 10 yrs ago that happened), same with spiders.... Used to think spiders the size of ants were scary, now spiders 3 times the size and will deal with them with ease.... It really becomes second nature with spiders, as for snakes, rare occurence unless living in the bush, suburbia abit different, depending whereabout you live though.
