I have stuck into google and it comes back with $80K, I'm wondering cause I get half of that as a qualified chef, full time but on casual (so I get an extra 25% on top of my hourly rate).
When I was doing office admin I got about $34k per year - full time, permanent.
As a dog catcher/local laws enforcer - $44k (but that was in the Territory so i think they put about $10k onto every wage as it's very expensive there)
I have seen on here that people put "can we survive on $120K a year on partners wage"
what kind of jobs do the lower paid people have and what is the annual wage?
I have only heard of mine workers getting that kind of money.
Is there anyone else as poorly paid as myself?
Is the national average wage on google high due to mines ect?

I shouldn't think that a few high-paid mine workers really skew the national average that much.
IT/Banking/Finance pays pretty well. I've been in IT for years and have always earned much more than the national average. And far more people would work in IT than are employed in the mines.

Australia's best-paid workers are miners, whose ordinary earnings average $103,111 a year.
Next come professional, scientific and technical services workers who average $77,761 per annum.
Retail workers average $48,703.
The poorest wages are found in the accommodation and restaurant sector where full-time workers earn $46,306 on average.
lol - just got that off the website, cooking being one of the lowest!!! (still higher wages then I've seen advertised in QLD for chefs)
Thanks

sorry, I don't live near the main citys which is why I asked the orginal question. most people here have something to do with the mines that's why I assumed it would be the mines/defence force that would up the average. but now I have looked at that website I can see it's not as high as I orginally thought.

Depends on your demographic and where you live. For example the average age for a male employed full time in W.A. is $88,000. In Qld it is $75,000.

I'm a lawyer doing personal injuries work so I get to see how much people earn in different jobs here. It does surprise me how little some people earn for quite responsible jobs in Toowoomba - $34k for shop manager for example.
Good place to get a job near here is Acland Coal Mine - they seem to be on very good money with overtime

It's a shame they don't quote median figures rather than averages.
At least then the extremities would be diluted and the end result far more meaningful and realistic.

I was thinking the same thing, that is that it would be a right skewed distribution. That said the means by profession are probably more reliable.

Ever thought of retraining into a profession that pays 80k plus? Lots of different jobs in and around mining, support services that pay very well with only a few tafe qualifications.

. Wages vary very much on where you live, go up to the Pilbara and get to know the right people and $100k+ a year isn't hard to come by, down side is rentals are $1600 a week for a 4 bed house
is usually around 40c during the summer (we have a long summer) and is very remote.
