Talking What to pack for flight?

Hi all

Seen lots of threads about what to put in containers for shipping but I thought it might be a good idea to create a list of things to pack in the suitcases and hand luggage (apart from clothes of course)

What do you think?

So far I have thought of:

Hand luggage :- Passports, visas, money, tickets, job references, landlord references, bank statements, full address book, insect repellent, changes of clothes, swimsuits, face wipes, driving licences, books/toy/activities for journey, neck supports for plane,

Suitcases :- childrens red books, plug adaptors, multi-plug boards, clothes to last till container arrives, toiletries,

Any other ideas?

Jackie

we will be taking some of our hand tools we really don't want to go missing from the container, on to the flight with us when we go. eventually.

To save space, i wouldn't bother taking anything that you can get over there, ie. toiletries(excpet for immidiate journey), insect reppellant, face wipes etc.

you will need all the room you can get for clothes!

How about:-

Flight socks.

Sun Cream for when you first arrive - only bring a small amount as the Australian stuff is far superior to UK (every year my Mum goes to Oz to visit my brother and his family the first thing I request she brings back is Sun Cream - I have even run out and had my brother post it to me).

We have only just sent in our 136 MODL last month, but have already spoken about having precious (irreplaceable) photos put on a disc to carry with us just in case things go missing. Sentimental I know but my Dad has passed away and the few photos I have with my sons when they were young are priceless to me.

I put stuff like that in my hang luggage. Didn't want them going missing if the airline lost our luggage

One thing we took as hand luggage was our laptop and a hard drive with a back-up of all files/photos off our other PCs. We also took all important legal documents in our hand luggage (birth certificates, marriage certificate etc) and the laptop also contained scanned copies of other documents we thought we might need before the shipping container arrived.

We packed fruit for the journey. DONT pack fruit whatever you do. We forgot all about it and nearly got a fine when we landed.

Aye, we nearly got a fine for not declaring baby formula ... easily done.

Top of my (solo) flight list was MP3 player (talking books are good), a couple of books (one of cryptic crosswords), documents ... to be honest I didn't need most of them and survived quite happily on the in-flight entertainment ... that moving map thing is very addictive ...

Don't bring insect repellant in your hand luggage. Mostly because I can't see why you'd need it on the plane, but more importantly you can't really bring on liquids. Be careful about anything liquid since they'll likely throw it out on you anyway.

We brought our laptop, baby diaper bag, activities for the kids and a change of clothes for the kids. Definitely needed the change of clothes since my daughter threw up about 2 hours into the flight. I think the swim suits are also a waste of space since they can't be used on the plane. The only way I would bring them is if you are planning a stop over, and even then you would only need them on the plane in case your luggage is lost.

We also brought our mp3 players, a book for each and a deck of cards. We didn't use any of that, we just watched movies. But it was nice having them just in case.
