Student fees- do we pay
We are in the process of applying for temporary 457 business sponsorship visa and have been advised that if successful, our children could be subject to overseas student fees once we arrive in Oz (both would need to enrol in school). Does anyone know if this is the case or where we can check this out?

Have you seen this: I think it's a useful summary of the 457 visa restrictions.

If you are heading there, discuss those costs with your sponsor!
All other States, State schools are free when on a 457.
Private schools may even work out cheaper! We have 2 kids (6 & 10) in a Catholic School and the cost is $2,000 pa in Brisbane

yes they are. and you don't have to pay them (though you do have to pay the couple of hundred for school books etc at beginning of year). my daughters' school constantly sends request back $50 for library fund, $200 for building fund, $100 p&c - isn't that what tax is for?
i no longer pay them after $60,000 was donated to the school recently and they chose to use it on a ruddy pastor. it's a non-religious school for gawd's sake!

Iv'e been looking at school sites and annual reports - you musn't forget the rotas and voluterring for whatever. Something to look forward to I guess. Then again, guess it will help in meeting new people.

these days, i help at the school disco every few months and that's my bit. with my girls' school it's as if they think everyone is still a stay at home mum (and i'm not denigrating stay at home mothers BTW). i remember baking a cake at 11pm one night (as a harrassed single mother working full time) as some bright spark had suggested a "bake off" to raise money :curse: newsflash! it's the 2000s, not the '50s

I don't begrudge the $40 voluntary contribution, I would rather pay and know it is improving the surroundings and equipment they have in school. I also don't mind helping out, it does help that I don't work but the kids love me being there and I get to see first hand what goes on.
