It's not relevant what he caters for - nor are proles. UK people like, and know, except muggins here(!), and miss their TV - and even that is not massively relevant here except that they might favour TV over outdoors. It's been said that Australian TV is so bad you have to get out....

There are a few other comediens too - I have seen faces but don't know names. Russell BRAND? And at least one other who make light of familiar situations - as all good ones do.

I think it is relevant actually, because I agree that the UK is addicted to TV. Perhaps the increasing levels of frustration and anger there might be mitigated if crap like Kyle wasn't aired. If gives the proles ideas. They use it for role models like they used to use fathers.

I don't think UK is addicted to TV but the output is good and there is certainly a market for it.

You may be right of course but it's relevant to Australia too which goes without saying.

I would happily bring up my son in both countries which have different aspects of child friendly activities but both still valid. However, I would never bring him up in Perth...its a wild west town come good but filled with cash strapped bogans and over inflated suburb prices....just saying!! (I have no experience of Perth by the way...just being bitchy!)

When I first moved to Oz in 2004, if someone had said to me it would soon be more expensive to live there than Zurich I would have burst out laughing. It's a real concern.
When we arrived back in Australia in 2000 we were amazed at how cheap things were (nothing to do with exchange rates), you could quite literally fill a shopping trolley in Coles for $100, when we left in 2012 one person could easily carry the same in $ terms in a few bags.
Property in that time went through the roof, running a car likewise, dont get me started on electricity prices.

Australians on average watch over 3 hours a day of TV, in the UK it is just over 4 hours, neither remotely constitutes being addicted.
At the end of the day Australia doesnt magically offer kids benefits they dont have in the UK.

I love it here (Perth) and don't find it boring at all.

Having said that, if I lived in a nice house close to the beach with a good bunch of mates and my child at a good school I'd probably be happy back in the UK too.

As always different people will prefer different places. The life here may be better for some kids but not all of them.

Exactly, it is all down to the individual not the country.

Our thoughts on waiting for 4 years are that we live in the hope that the exchange rates will improve, so we can get more AUD for our GBP's.

Also, our daughter had a hard time settling in the school she went to in Perth (having never had an issue with her UK school). She was subjected to some awful bullying and it really affected her confidence. She gets very upset at the thought of startng another school in Australia. We've discussed this with her and said that she can finish high school in the UK, then start sixth form or college in Oz.

Another reason for the delay is we are mortgage free in the UK. Based on the poor exchange rate, we wouldn't be mortgage free in Oz. We therefore plan to save as much money as possible for the next 4 years to get us off to the best start possible in Oz.

Yep, the last article I saw on this said 4 hours for the UK and more than 3 hours in Oz. So it's pretty close really. Both countries watch a significant amount of tv, and given how dreadful tv is in Oz you could argue that the statistics look worse on Australia (4 hours of decent product may be more justifiable than 3.25 hours of garbage).

Anyone saying the UK is totally addicted to tv and that Australians hardly ever watch it is just making it up.
