Re: What job do you do?

I am a software engineer, other half worked as medical transcriptionist (I guess it was medical secretary in Oz).

I will try in IT Field first otherwise I might take any temporary job to keep going. Mrs prem might look for job after 2 years.

We are going to Melbourne

Prem

I'm an IT support specialist and the wife is a community Psychiatric Nurse.

Wife is the main applicant and we both hope to get similar jobs.

Cadman,

Just wondering if you used your skills/job on your visa application? I too am a CAD draughtsman in Telecoms and have also worked as a Mechanical Designer.

Looking in to emigrating to OZ and wanted to know if this would get me in.

Cheers

I eat fire among other circus/variety performing stuff.

Been in Melbourne for over 2 months and still don't know if it's what I'm going to end up doing over here....

We did use my skills yes. The occupation on MODL list is 40 points for Civil Engineering Technician, put a lot of emphasis on any surveying, drainage work etc. for the "civil" bit.
Not sure if telecomms counts or wether mechanical is on the list.
We used an agent btw so he helped point me in the right direction regarding bullshit!

officially a Chartered Accountant, but had really moved away from the standard financial accounting into commercial planning for new products so would struggle to get a straight financial role......had intended to spend the first year working (teaching, skippering, helping out on charters) on yachts & dinghies up and down the east coast and then play it by ear as to whether I wanted to get an office job again (perhaps due to money, wanting to using my skills etc), but in an ideal world would mix the two - managing & doing business plans for a dinghy or yacht school or charter. Being single and childless it seemed great to be able to do what I wanted....unfortunately I smashed my leg up skiing and so it looks like it'll be straight into a big corporate desk job for me, not what I wanted at all, still perhaps it won't be the same as doing it in London and chances are my ideal world was very unrealistic.

Fascinating to read about the variety of jobs everyone does...fireeating? wow, sure beats saying you are an accountant when you meet people!

PS: anyone know of a nice sailing company that wants a manager/accountant be sure to let me know!

Hi

Hubby is a Senior IT Security Consultant (viruseses, firewalls, system security and all that sort of stuff) and I am a Holistic Therapist (Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Body Massage) and Beauty Therapist.

He is currently working for a company who have offices in Brisbane and Sydney, they have already told him they have the work for him over there so he may just be transferring to Brisbane until they open a Perth office, which they are talking of doing in the next 2 years.

I would like to work for myself when I get to Oz, I wold love that.

Part qualified accountant, not as interested in it as I used to be, but I make good money, so may not have much option to stick with it when I get to oz. Dan is a warehouse manager, logistics etc... Oh and Harry is a professional terror!! ;)

The Other Half is scarily intelligent and does something important in IT, which he seems to enjoy and plans to continue in Oz.

I'm a HR/Recruitment Manager, which is too boring for words, so I am planning to do something exciting when we get to Sydney like retraining as a Koala Cuddler!
