Re: WHAT HEATING DO YOU HAVE?????

We've got an old gas heater that plugs in to a mains bayonet - bought 4 years ago from Cash Converters.

3 of the rooms have oil filled electric rads.

The house is pretty well insulated, haven't felt as cold as in my last house, which was freezing AND had a woodburner too.

Hey a good way to keep warm is to chop the wood yourself woman :rofl:that was me this weekend anyhow - didn't need to make the bloody fire after spending half an hour splitting logs...had built up a right sweat

Our rental was a shocker and had no heating and galleried ceilings therefore no insulation. I can honestly say I have never been as cold in my life as when I lived there and I lived in bleedin Canada for 4 years! In our new place we have good insulation and reverse cycle aircon along with a woodburner in the family room. Our house is also very old fashioned in layout and isn't all open plan, I have proper rooms with doors on so close doors and put the woodburner on and we are as warm as toast.

Just oil filled radiators for us at the moment, and we're out in bullsbrook so minus a couple of degrees for us too. Will be getting a wood burner put in as soon as we have the money, (roll on end of tax year!!)

I can really recommend under floor heating, you can set it to come on during the early hours so that when you get up the house is really warm. If you heat the concrete slab up it stays warm most of the day, then just top it up again in the evening if it needs it.

One of those large tins of Baked Beans keeps our bedroom heated the whole night! It does have to be Heinz though, other brands just don't cut it!

:frown: Don't talk to me about bl00dy heating.

Spent a good half an hour playing one saleman off against the other a couple of weeks back. You know, the kind of slimy vultures you get in Good Guys and Retravision.

Anyway, ended up with three oil filled plug in radiators. 2400W, digital timers, dehumifiers etc. etc. We were very pleased.

.........and they worked a treat in our rental.

But we moved house last week, and when on together they blow the fckin fuse. Apparently they're over loading the circuit - lovely.

So we either have to get a sparks round or toss a coin each night to see who gets a radiator in their room.

Any advice on something reasonably priced and gas would be gratefully received.

HI :p

As i am sitting here in my PJ's (big fleecy ones ) and a blanket and fluffy socks, i am wondering what everyone is using for heat.
We are renting a 4 bed in Perth , which has no source of heat at all. we are using electric blow heater which we have only just got around to buying, but as i have just started work at Synergy i have realized that it is going to cost us a fortune.

All i wanted was a #Calor gas heater (ones with the bottles) as i thought that they would be better price wise. but i cant find any anywhere.

anyone got any ideas , or just let me know what you are using

thanks
debbie

I would say- ditch the blow heaters ASAP.We bought two last year and used them for a little while in the evenings to warm up the bedrooms...six weeks later got our first electricity bill for over $600.
Our bills since ten have been around $200 per quarter so I can only guess at how much those little blow heaters cost to run!
Our rental alsao has no heating, apart from a tiny gas fire in the main room, you only get any benefit from that if you sit on top of it.
We now just put on a jumper, and are counting down the days til we move into our new house-which has reverse cycle !

Is it expensive to get installed?

Last week I actually had to put on a cardigan first thing in the morning! No need for heat here in Brissie yet but when we do we've got the RC air con. Been here 2 years so thought I was acclimatised but you see locals in winter coats and gloves when it's 20 degrees.

I have lived in the Caribbean for 7 years now (12 months of summer.....don't own a long sleeved T-shirt anymore!!!) and have forgotten what it is like to feel cold ! In fact, my 4 year old who was born here, has never worn a long sleeved shirt. She asked me the other day why people wear mittens (she sees them in her books) and I told her becuase their hands get cold. She then asked me "Why would their hands get cold!!??"
Gosh.....it is going to be interesting for us all !!! I look forward to it !!!

Nix

Depends of course where you're heading but for the record I have to scrape the ice off the windscreen in the morning, the house (rental, 1 year old) is absolutely freezing - no heat in the bathrooms, utility or wardrobes and Mrs Wol is miserable!

And you'd be right because that 20-22 would be summer, and there are longer days, and the sun is higher in the sky, warming up more of the land.
