Default What documents are needed over there?

Hi Everyone,
Going in four weeks and in the process of getting everything together. Can anyone tell me what documents we will need over in Oz. Do we need certified copies of anything? For instance do you need character references etc for renting?
Thanks
Tracey

The safest bet is to bring all documentation. You may not need them, but why risk that, it can do no harm. Employment references will almost definitely be required if you're looking for work, and character references help in renting but aren't always needed. Certified copies are a good idea, but again may not be needed. Better to be safe than sorry though, I'd say.

Hi Tracey,

Before we came out here we kept the most recent statements we had, bank statements, mortgage statement,gas/electricity/phone bill etc..(never been needed)
Hubby had a few character references done.(never been needed)

I would however make sure you have all your Birth Certificates,Passports, immunisation records,(for kids),photo driving licence,UK bank switch card, credit card with you at all times in the first few weeks.

When we rented, all the ID we needed was our Passports, hubby's Drivers licence & my UK Switch card. But I'm sure the ID needed will vary.

Donna.

As others have suggested, bring no claims letters (for all types of insurance - house, car); references from employers and landlords; copies of old utility bills (useful for applying for credit cards); bank statements (useful for when you're renting and some places (again, I'm thinking credit cards) don't allow copies of statements that have been downloaded); educational certificates (just in case, for work!) ... think that's what we brought.

If you have free space with an on-line email account, scan everything and upload the stuff there. Extra security should the bag you've got all this stuff in go missing whilst you're in transit!

Hi Tracey,

We brought bank statements, proof of utility bills being in credit (direct debit payments), mortgage payments for 2 years, Estate Agent letter saying house in immaculate condition etc for renting and we did use all of them.

We applied for 3 houses and we were offered all 3 - despite 2 of them having over 20 applications in for each. Also one of the Agents we applied to for a rental property said it was the best application she had seen and would recommend us to the landlord.

So my advice is bring all these coz you may need them and it certainly helped us.

Good luck!!!!!!
