What did you regret taking/leaving behind?
Hi all,
Well, I've just moved back to my parents' for a month with all my worldy goods and trying to sort them out into various piles...to fly with, to air-freight, to ship, to ship later...charity, bin....etc...
It's a nightmare!! I don't know how you guys with whole families do it, there's just me and I only have 22 yrs of stuff I've hoarded. But it seems like an impossible task!!
Is there anything in particular you took, but wish you'd left as it was easier/cheaper to buy there? Or vice versa, couldn't find it there and wished you'd had it sent across.
I'm worrying about little things like shoes and clothes fitting nice...won't be able to just nip into Primark or New Look!!

OH not bothered about cheap clothes and was worried he would have to pay more than £10 for his tesco jeans! Needn't have worried.
There are stores like target and BigW that sell stuff and always have promotions on. He bought polo shorts for $10 (ie £5) and they are brighter and more 'trendy' than he wore back home. You may find a lot of clothes don't seem right over here.
Same for trainers, bought 2 pairs of New balance (not a total cheapskate) for $100. Not really bought any 'proper' shoes yet.
Also they have $2 shops that sell everything, great for those bits and pieces, electricals etc you need.
There are also a lot of the designer outlet places, always deals on.
We read before we came things were cheap and nasty and poor quaility, but not really found that yet.

I was surprised at the number of low cost department stores there are here.

Thanks, that sounds good...because I'm starting work in an office about 2 wks after I arrive, I need all my casual and work clothes too - been trying to get some short-sleeve work shirts here but obviously middle of winter...may have to wait for those but should have time when I get there.
Thanks for the info! Definitely like the sound of the low cost dept stores!!

yes, hopefully it will get me over my addiction to cheap clothes and pointlessly buying things! i try not to shop at primark because of the whole poorly treated workers thing, so am a lot better now anyway.
Cotton On is the new way to go.....!

I think you can search on location, which matters as sometimes offers apply to specific stores.
We often go to Harris Scarfe
http://www.shophs.com.au/
which has a lot of everything - cheap clothes, footware, household. But there are not many stores around

Re: What did you regret taking/leaving behind?
I bought too many clothes which I thought I would wear, coz it was Australia, and have not worn once. We did not ship anything over, so that took up space which loved clothes could have taken.

I regret leaving a place that had 24hour shops, somewhere i didnt need to smother myself in suntan lotion just to walk down the street, oh and for some reason clothes sizes seem smaller here so if your a bit tubby its hard to get clothes unless you go to specialist fat guy stores which charge you 4 times as much. Its a real pain, back in the UK I had no problem with clothes but here they are all made for skinny stick people

Ohhh I do miss my dishwasher too. Ours was old, but it was a good one. Here they cost loads, and the one we bought (which in the shop they said was good) is rubbish.
