Hi

Just wondering out of interest, who shipped their furniture to Oz with them and started off renting a furnished house? Then what did you do with your own furniture? Did you pile it all up in the rumpus room? Or spread it out around the house? Or lend it to itinerant immigrants?

Would love to hear people's experiences!

Cheers

I don't think you'll find many furnished rental houses - most are unfurnished! We had a furnished apartment for the first month, then moved into an unfurnished house and rented a few sticks of furniture until ours arrived.

Dont think I've seen a furnished rental place for offer to be honest so not really an issue.

The problem for people moving to Australia into a rental isnt where to put the stuff, more like what do you do for the first few weeks whilst you have none!

Buzzy as the others have mentioned, most furnished rentals are only short term, so most people organise an unfurnished long term (usually 6 month) rental while they are in their furnished short term & then buy the absolute basics to get them by until their shipping arrives. One thing to remember is that aussie houses often have extra &/or larger rooms like rumpus rooms & outdoor areas, so people often buy a cheap sofa which then gets transferred to the rumpus room when their own sofa arrives or buy an outdoor furniture setting to use in the dining room & then transfer it outdoors later.

We're going into furnished accom. when we arrive. If our furniture arrives before we move into our long-term unfurnished house then we're just going to put it into storage. We got some quotes for storage and it was much cheaper than I expected. Hopefully we'll have moved beforehand though .
