I think stationery might be more expensive here in UK - Staples isnt really competitive with Office Works imho. Havent done much stationery shopping but the el cheapo presentation books didnt seem to be available.
Still trying to find things that are more expensive here other than fuel. My car insurance has been more expensive but not when you include roadside assist and take into account the fact that we havent built up the NCB yet, which we had in Aus. The car itself is considerably cheaper than the Aus equivalent.

Petrol and diesel
House, contents and car insurance
Council tax/rates
Many new cars
Commuting (compared to SE England)
Large screen TVs
Electronics - some laptops, computers, digital cameras, computer parts etc
Apple products
Beef and lamb
Some wine - usually middle/higher range (French champagne can be cheaper)
Renting a house (overall given the size/quality of the product)
Houses generally (been looking online at property in SE England, Southern California, Germany, Italy, France - wow, where's the crash?)

Yes I'm the same, there seems to be the odd thing like big TV's for some reason but most things are at the very best the same price here but usually more.
What I have found with the car insurance is that when I add the CTP the quotes I have had from the UK are comparable. Didn't your new company accept your Australian NCB ?

Surrounded by nature on the edge of Toowoomba with views to die for. Yes it is bushland....real Australia. Wallaroos in our 1 acre garden. Feed Kookaburra twice a day etc etc. We have no aircon or swimming pool and we LOVE IT!! Toowoomba is beautiful and has everything we need. The people here are sooo friendly and genuine and the sunshine coast only 2 hours or so away. You can stick your big cities where the sun don't shine.

Good for you, I'm glad you have found a place that suits you. I could never live there but that's why we are all different, I also couldn't live in a big city.
