I am looking for a school for my son who will be starting next year. Does anyone know the best school in or around Scarborough Qld. I have no preference for public or private. I am after a school that will nurture a child rather than be all academic.

I know its not Scarborough, but there is the new Mango Hill State School opening in January next year, hearing very good things about the Head and what she has as a vision for the quickly being built new school\

Grace Lutheran is highly regarded (but expensive) as is the Lakes College (the private one at North Lakes). A lot of people send their kids to Southern Cross Catholic as it's heaps cheaper. I know some who go to Mueller College, they are quite happy with it. Scarborough SS is ok, too large though IMO - my son goes there now but we are moving him for next year.

I wouldn't limit yourself to just schools in Scarborough. The Peninsula has plenty of schools there. Southern Cross is probably the cheapest of the private schools on the peninsula, however, in my opinion it is not one of the best for what you are looking for. We know a number of children who are the same year as my oldest but at SCCS and they are waaaaay behind in their learning of reading and writing. We also know a number of people who have pulled their kids out of SCCS too after not getting the support they expected from the school. We nearly sent our kids there and now I am happy we didn't.
Grace has amazing facilities and is probably the next cheapest fees. We really liked it and we were very very close to sending our kids there.
Mueller is very expensive, however, other than that I have not heard any good or bad things about it.
We have two friends who teach at Scarborough State School and Humpybong and both say they would not send their kids there.
The two state schools that I have heard good things about are Clontarf SS and Hercules Road. We ended up opting for Hercules Rd and we are very very happy with this decision. They have a Principal who really does take a zero tollerance policy on bullying (which we experienced first hand only a month ago) and his teacher is amazing, I can't say enough about her to be honest.
One thing you didn't stipulate is how old your kid/s is/are. Are they primary or secondary age, as that will have an impact on your decision. We expect that once our kids have finished at Hercules Rd they will go to Grace (from Y7)

Many thanks for all your help. I will look have a look at the schools you have mentions. I have not heard of the Hercules Rd school but I will deffo look it up. Bullying is the main concern I had as I was bullied at school so am very keen to find a school that will do something about it.
My son turns 5 in a year and half but I heard you need to sign them up to a school in advance.
Many thanks again everyone for your input.
